University of California Bridge to the Doctorate Fellowships are Available for 2007-2008
UC Riverside seeks to broaden the pool of undergraduate students who enter doctoral programs by encouraging ethnically underrepresented students to pursue graduate degrees and careers in science, engineering and mathematics (SEM). Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), Bridge to the Doctorate awards are open to alumni of Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) programs who accept admission to a graduate program at UC Riverside for the Fall 2007 term.
PROGRAM PROVISIONS
- Fellowship funding for first 2 years of graduate study (ca. $30,000 / year), followed by TA/RA funding for up to 5 years total.
- Full graduate school tuition and fee support
- Academic year/summer research experiences
- Professional conference & research travel opportunities
- Monthly professional development seminars
- Networking opportunities with graduate students across SEM disciplines ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
- Past/Present participant in an undergraduate LSAMP, AMP, or CAMP Program
- Must meet UC Riverside’s graduate admissions requirements
- Acceptance into a UCR Science, Engineering, or Mathematics Graduate Program

The Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IPAM), a national research institute supported by The National Science Foundation, is now accepting applications for its 2007 Summer Program, Research in Industrial Projects for Students (RIPS). RIPS is a nine-week, intensive residential research experience for math, engineering, computer science and physical/life science undergraduate students that assigns teams of four students to a project designed by an industrial sponsor. UH-REU Mathematical Biology
Applications are solicited by undergraduate students interested in research experience in mathematical biology. Summer Pre-Graduate Research Experience (SPGRE) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
The goals of the program are to increase the number of historically
underrepresented students (African American, American Indian, Mexican
American, and Puerto Rican populations) who enroll in Ph.D. programs and
to provide participants with meaningful research experiences.
The program has been in place for 19 years and approximately 70% of the
participants have gone on to complete graduate school.

The Motivating Undergraduates in Science & Technology (MUST) Scholarship Program (link) application is now available online. Approximately 100 undergraduate students in engineering, science and technology fields will be awarded scholarships covering half of tuition up to $10,000. MUST scholarship recipients will also receive a $5,000 stipend for a summer internship at a NASA facility.
The program is administered by a collaboration between the Hispanic College Fund (HCF), Society of Hispanic Engineers (SHPE) and the United Negro College Fund Special Programs (UNCFSP).
The final deadline is August 19, 2006 – the MUST application is entirely on-line. You will be required to submit an essay, a letter of recommendation, and resume on-line plus you will have to mail a transcript and proof of citizenship to HCF offices, so finish your application early!
