| Through the Houston Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation at the University of Houston, UH-HLSAMP, students are provided access to a comprehensive support system that ensures successful graduation in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. UH-HLSAMP students receive faculty/peer mentoring, financial assistance, academic support, personal and professional development, and a number of special opportunities.
At its academic core, UH-HLSAMP students participate in Academic Excellence Workshops offered by the Scholar Enrichment Program. These workshops provide essential supplemental learning experiences that enhance overall student success within the STEM majors. In addition to the workshops, UH-HLSAMP students have access to peer tutors, educational resources, and private study centers.
To qualify as a UH-HLSAMP scholar, the student must:
- declare a STEM major
- be enrolled full-time (minimum twelve semester credit hours)
- maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
- maintain a math/science GPA of 2.5 or higher
- be a US citizen or permanent resident
UH-HLSAMP stipend awards vary based on level of involvement. Most new awards will be $1000 per semester. The maximum award received is $3000 per semester. These amounts are subject to modification as funding may change over time. Stipend awards are renewable each semester, and UH-HLSAMP scholars are expected to apply for renewal each semester. |
