There are two major
categories of AMP applicants: first time in college,
and currently enrolled students. The following guidelines
are minimum academic qualifications for each category.
It is important to keep in mind for all decisions that
the AMP is not and cannot be a remedial program. All
AMP Scholars must have the potential to earn a STEM
degree in 5 or fewer years. Students who do not meet
the eligibility criteria are eligible to enter into
a contract agreement that allows them to demonstrate
their capability to do the coursework and thereby become
eligible for AMP funding the following semester (refer
to Item C below).
A. Incoming Freshman Students must:
- Have at least three years of (state
core) science courses
- Have taken mathematics courses through
pre-calculus (elementary functions), calculus preferred
- Rank in top 25% of high school graduating
class and/or have a state core gpa >= 3.00
- SAT math >= 450, SAT verbal >= 450 or TASP mathematics, reading and writing component
score >= 250 each.
-
Math and science GPA>= 3.0
B. Currently
enrolled students must have
- declared a STEM major
- cumulative gpa >= 2.5
- major GPA >= 2.5 (or math/sci GPA³ 2.5)
- full-time student status (12 or more
semester credit hrs.)
C. Contracts
(for applicants not meeting above criteria). Students
successfully completing the contract semester would
qualify for AMP funding the following semester.
- Declare STEM major (if not already)
- Enroll in at least 12 hrs of courses
applicable to STEM degree with at least 1 appropriate
math course and at least 1 appropriate science course.
- Complete all courses with GPA >= 2.5 with no grades < B in math, science
